I got into acting almost entirely on accident.
Professional acting, anyway. It was something I'd always loved. When I was a child, I saw a cousin play the Wicked Witch of the West in a school production of the Wizard of Oz, and from then on, I was hooked; I got into it then and never looked back. Still, though I went to school as a Theater Arts major I was looking toward directing and producing, not necessarily acting for the rest of my life. I just didn't think I could make a living on it, not really anyway.
And then Professor Farrand, a woman I worked closely with during my time in college, received a casting call and pushed me to submit my headshots and resume. Several auditions later I snagged the role of H.W. in There Will Be Blood. It was my first foray into big budget movies, and before I knew what was happening it was nominated for eight Academy Awards and I'd never even considered that as a possibility, that I'd be doing something like that.
Even so, I will always come back to Texas. I was born and raised here. I considered for a while moving to Los Angeles and working at Deaf West, but it never came to frutition and strangely, I don't mind as much as I thought I would. I still work a lot with the school I went to K-12 at, and actually just finished up a production of Wizard of Oz.
So... how did you get started?

For reasons I can't yet figure out, IJ isn't letting me update my friends list, so to all you new folks I haven't gotten to add, I apologize and I'll do so as soon as it lets me!
I've talked to a handful of you, but for those of you who don't know me, hi! I'm Russell. Mostly an actor, but I also dance (hip hop and freestyle, mostly) among other things. I was born and raised in Texas, which by the way, isn't actually hot all year round. I live on the outskirts of Houston, and it's 40something degrees here, which I guess is warmer than what a lot of people are dealing with in the winter. I went to New York to film something once in the middle of February, and assumed it wouldn't be "that bad." I nearly froze and had to buy a new winter coat while I was up there because I hadn't brought mine.
Speaking of New York, I'm going to be heading out that way in a little under a week, so hopefully I won't die of cold. You can rest assured that I'll bring a coat this time though, lest I freeze to death. Before that I'm apparently going to a WWE show, on the fifteenth, so that should be fun as well; I've been to one or two of them but I'm actually going to hang out with people this time around, rather than just watch.
What are your plans for the weekend?
